Please Rock the Vote! If you haven't registered press the link on the lower left hand side of my webpage.

A Message for all women AND men.

WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE

This is the story of our Grandmothers
and Great-grandmothers.
They lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted

the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless.

They were jailed nonetheless for picketing

the White House and carrying signs

asking for the vote.

By the end of the night, they were barely alive.
Forty prison guards wielding clubs

with their warden's blessing went on a rampage

against the 33 women wrongly convicted of

'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

(Lucy Burns)
They beat Lucy Burns.

They chained her hands to the cell bars above
her head and left her hanging for the night

She was bleeding and gasping for air.

  1. (Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell.
  2. They smashed her head against an iron bed
  3. and knocked her out cold.

Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead
    and suffered a heart attack.

Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on
Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the
    Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia
ordered his guards to teach a lesson
    to the suffragists imprisoned there
    because they dared to picket

    Woodrow Wilson's White House
    for the right to vote.

For weeks, the women's only water came
    from an open pail.

Their food--all of it colorless slop--
    describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
    beating, choking, slamming, pinching,
    twisting and kicking the women.

(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked
on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair,
forced a tube down her throat and
poured liquid
into her
until she vomited.
She was tortured like this for weeks until word
was smuggled out to the press.

http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/suffrage/nwp/prisoners.pdf

So, refresh my memory.
Some women won't vote this year
because-
-why, exactly?
We have carpool duties?
We have to get to work?
We have to get our nails done?

Our vote doesn't matter?
It's raining?

What would those women think of the way we use,
or don't use,
our right to vote?
All of us take it for granted now, not just
younger women.

It is shocking to know that Woodrow Wilson
and his cronies tried to persuade a psychiatrist
to declare Alice Paul insane so that she
could be permanently institutionalized.

It is inspiring that the doctor refused.

Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave.
That didn't make her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men:
'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

We need to get out and vote and use this right
that was fought so
hard for by these
very courageous women.

However you vote -vote.

History is being made. Take part in it.

Be Insane~
Vote in the upcoming election.
Vote and excercise the right that these women won in courage.

Viva la Raza, Louis!

I've been gone from Second Life for about a week now except for chance moments here and there, and a bit of time to cheer in the Launch Day Party of Relay for Life 2008 Second Life style.

I have a 2 stores laying fallow waiting for me to decorate them and get product set up. I have my current show running at Avatrait that I've been a small part of. I have puppies to feed here in RL, a man to love, and a son to survive. But...for me honestly the world has stood still in the past week. And the little things in life, just seem even smaller right now. My family has seen me literally run in for a few moments to change or sleep over the last 4 days, and then run out. We've exchanged texted, "I love you", "I'll be a bit longer, don't wait up", "He's hanging on here". Why?

One of my best friends in first world has been in the midst of losing her father, Louis to Prostate Cancer. We were with her when he was brought on Hospice about 6 months ago. We are all Hospice Nurses. We deal with loss, and death every day of our lives. We comfort others, we listen, we help people get through the roller coaster of a ride that losing someone is.

This past week...has been unbelievably hard. We have listened, talked, hugged, cried, and screamed at the universe together. This week, we watched her father leave this life together. Time and the meaning of most things lose all perspective. We laughed alot this week. We drank alot of Patròn. I even learned about Silver, Gold and what we call, Repo'd Patròn. We've cried buckets of tears. We've shared secrets, and love.

Tonight....Louis left this life. He left behind a legacy of love. Tonight...I learned how to toast this beloved man as he left this earth. We saluted him together. We escorted his body from the house together. Seven women strong, we gathered tonight. We heralded his departure. He left this world with a fully bloomed rose at his breast, and 7 loving kisses planted on his forehead and face. His face glistened with our tears. Seven of us who cared for him in the last days of his life into the wee hours, around the clock. And even more importantly, those who have loved him through out his life...his wife and daughter.

Through this all, this lesson in caring reminded me of lessons learned at my own father's knee....no matter the race, the culture, the religion, or even the political belief...we are all one in our humanity. And I even learned to love the word 'gringa' as it was tossed affectionately my way through these last days of love and loss.

For this reason I ask....when you see the donation kiosks in Second Life or in First Life...don't just walk by. Even if you give one linden or dollar, it can make a difference. Don't be afraid to care. I'm not, even when it hurts.

To his memory, I devote my time and effort in the cause and the work in Relay for Life. All I can say is, "Viva la Raza, Louis!"

Skin to Skin

Aside from just being a happy sorta girl tonight, I want to introduce our new animations release from DaeSkins/2T- there is a new 6pack release with all pictured available at one low price of $L250 or individual new poses available at $L50 per pose.

DaeSkins has 3 new girls in town with the release of Savannah makeup styles:

(From left to right)
Owie!!! Fae Dreams and Streamers

Owie!! came from work for an exclusive Avatrait Gallery Show and was developed for a photoshoot, the resulting images were featured in the show.

Fae Dreams was inspired by a want to have a skin that wasn't all 'correct' colors but maintained her muted colors.....it is embellished further with a white tattoo of starbursts around the eyes and down the bridge of the nose.

Streamers- soft, classic with a twist of trendy....love it, and the feel it gives me when I wear it.

All of these are available as copy, no transfer, no modify copies at our Lo Lo location of DaeSkins, and OnRez.

No skin is over $L400 in our store.

Feel free to wander when you do visit Lo Lo, we share the SIM with Caroline's Jewelry, and are graced with the beauty of a down home bayou, wetland complete with ducklings, fireflies, and wildlife...explore, sit and think or just cuddle.

Today

There are a lot of firsts for me today--- We'll start with the happy first: My stint as Featured Artist with Avatrait Gallery begins today! Its been weeks of preparation, and now down to the final hours before the show...less than 3 now!

When I say lots of work, in total I prepped over 30 images in hours of work for this show, with only 16 being featured...well, 17 with the freebie work, which was a tongue in cheek look at Cheesecake or PinUp art! It makes me laugh when I think of this as when I used this term with Mario Gerosa, senior editor with Architectural Digest, Italia when we were discussing art in SL and he had never heard it. It must be an American term. It actually is a school of art, which has gained attention in the last hundred years or so. It generally refers to pictures of scantily clad, attractive women in poses meant to show off their assets.
So...this is my first today, my first time as a featured artist of anything...

And since I want this to be a happy day.... I'll leave it with the happy thoughts and not even address the other first. I choose to be happy. You can choose to!

Happy Dae!

Someone Shot the Sofa

My fabric shipment didn't come in last week....and I've been dying to stitch up a few new outfits.... Well....hrmm, I happened to run by the Bayou last night and came upon what looked to be a fishin' shack. I was sorta looking in the windows... And then I saw my fabric...on the rack so to speak....take a look at this priceless source, and the cool thing is no one will see it's gone! Sweet! I'm an former EQ2 player so I knew how to harvest them resources....

A few hours later, after I dragged the material up with the rope and pulley system Gadget geared up for me, I was ready to box my new creations! I think they came out real fashionable-like considering I had to shoot the sofa for these...

Available at DaeSkins, Second Thoughts, Gadget Gear in Lo Lo

Also new at DaeSkins- a new outlet in Venice!
And a Victorian Release coinciding with the show at [re]collections:

This Tiffany Glass inspired outfit comes in two different shades and slightly different styles. Complete with Sculpted Flexi Prim skirt for that wonderful sassy flounce of ruffles, a wonderfully detailed bodice with a modest overblouse, elbow length Tiffany glass gloves in creamy, dreamy colors a Lampshade inspired bonnet and....Bless me Jeeves Bloomers! What more can you ask for!

Ohh? A look at the outfit? Sure thing, Blossom!

From Poppets to Love Bugs

Pansies and Poppets go so well together as well as, Love Bugs when its Valentine's. I've been feeling a bit pink obviously...so decided to release some Valentine's appropriate outfits... From Classy Textured pants complete with a small lacquered heart Zipper, a cutsey Laced Bodice to jeans complete with LOvE rear ending you.

The pants included in Poppet's Pansies actually have a belt-line of beautifully textured pansies.

In addition a 60's inspired outfit called: Amethyst Fancy, perfect for any Miss in the Pink...guess I've been busy....and pink. All this Pink must be some sort of illness, I never wear pink IRL, so....where is it coming from??
I think what's really been happening is we are gearing up for our next week's Stupid Cupid Party on the 9th of February. And some of the Pink must have rubbed off on me. Meh!! The party does promise to be lots of fun and with some major tunes from Naphtali from 3 to 4pm SLT then 4pm until 6pm will be Sock Hop-alicious with Madame Maracas from RadioRadio! If you haven't heard her spin, then you are really missing out one fine SL DJ.

Going, going gone!

I don't know whether to feel happy or sad.... Moving day is growing closer and closer. I've had this location for about a year now. It is thanks to Selena Gateaux the mind behind Goldie Locks in Second Life that I even had a chance to grow my DaeSkins business as much as it has.

I feel like a fledgling right now. I'm nervous about the change, yet excited all at once. We've had the Second Thoughts Lo Lo location for over a year. Now is the time to focus on this...

The sale is still going on with random skins posted new every day priced at 100 Lindens. And tomorrow (Sunday) we'll be adding a bit more to the pot. I'll announce more later. Suspense is my friend.

Raindancer or Fluster Cluck...you decide

Business first, my Mom always said... DaeSkins' sale continues with a new skin placed on sale daily at only 100 Lindens (one for men and one for women) PLUS- today only from 730 AM SLT until tomorrow morning- 2 skins will be marked down to $L50 as well. The 100 lindens sale will continue through January 31st when the main branch of DaeSkins will be moving fully to our Lo Lo Sim Location
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Raindancer? There is a quote: " Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness, has never danced in the rain" I'm not sure who to attribute this too, however its pouring down rain here in Southern California. And happiness would be something I sure would not associate with this deluge.

For those of us who are blessed to live in this smog filled, traffic congested region- drought is a daily affair. It rarely rains here. Sometimes the clouds spit a little, but real rain? Rare. So imagine 36,457,549+ people driving in water gushing from the clouds....make it better. Imagine 36,457, 549+ people who never drive in the rain, trying to go in the same direction all at once. It's a fluster cluck believe me :)

California Hydroplaning should be a new Olympic sport. Californians are idiots on the road anyways, but the rain just brings out the madness even more so. It probably has something to do with the constant hemorrhage of pollution we have flowing through our bodies and into our brains daily.

On my way to and from work this past week, I am finding myself resembling more the 96 year old lady from Pasadena on the roadways. I have people passing me like I'm standing still. (Of course I do want to point and laugh at them when I pass them later having merged with another car...somehow I don't think this is what Spock had going on with his Vulcan Mind Meld) Its not fun cause I want to drive like the cool kids, but I don't want to die like them.

So...I contemplate this cute little quote about dancing in the rain.... as I trudge into work with my shoes and jeans drenched to the knee, my hair that I just frigging washed hanging limply drooling streams of water down my face...mascara running in very unattractive trails along those same rivulets. And with this, you are probably wondering why I don't use an umbrella....despite the fact that so few of us even own those things anymore in California...

I did try the umbrella that was left in my car by my Mom, who died earlier this year...unfortunately I think it was made in about 1941. It was what I'd call a really limp rendition of rain protection and had this really unattractive cloud of dust when I opened it up, which promptly turned into mud when it hit my face. The little pokie things bend at this really odd angle, and actually made me worry that I might put an eye out. Aside from those facts it seemed to direct the flow of rain onto me instead of away... Mom is laughing her ass off now, I know.

So....Californians have to share...we're giving people, kinda. We tried fitting a few of us under an umbrella Tuesday night to escape to our cars. All I can say is my ass was soaked by the time I got to my car. Dancing in the rain my arse!

Romantic images of dancing in the rain, I love....its the reality of it that sucks.

Dae, the sarcastic one who is sick of this wet weather....gimme my sunshine back!

Blindsighted

It's funny sometimes how things happen. As many of you know I'm a Hospice Nurse. (yeah I know Dae, state the obvious...profile says it! d'oh?)
In addition I design in SecondLife and am a Flickr addict. I'm a new Photoshop user, and figure I can say that until I've been at it for at least 20 years.... Well, not really, I picked up Photoshop about a year and a half ago for the first time....so I classify that as new. (My blog! My Definitions! Hah!)

In any event, the past weeks have brought a promotion at work. With this promotion have come many headaches, as well as some good things. (Still trying to list those "goodies" and so far the list is about 1 word long but 'brought some good thing' just didn't sound right). I've competed in the SLArtist Idol competition, and also been preparing for a featured artist spot.

What I'm saying is that the caption says it all to me- I was blind in so many ways. While I thought I had priorities straight: compete, produce, work without taking any time off, meet deadlines, do, do, do- I really didn't. I lost my wish and desire to 'make stuff'- I lost my energy to be anything because I was so wrapped up in other people's expectations and goals. My creativity was externally driven, and not internally.

Blindsighted says so much to me- She is a guardian, yet she has no sight. She relies on her other senses to protect, to win, and yes, she can kick your arse. In looking deeper she is so much more because she is trusting of her inner sense. She relys on that inner sense to guide each and every action. While blind, she hasn't lost sight of who she is. She has internal direction and sight.

In the past weeks, I lost sight of myself and my family. I became deadlines to please other people. So what is important? Family and friends of course, are the first of all. Work goals are a must since living under a bridge and eating honeybuns is not exactly my ultimate goal in life. But after that....it is up to me. I don't want to lose my internal sense of direction, creativity and be prey to others for direction.

I'm back.

Voted off the Island! Ohh nooooos!

Well the party is over! Crying in my suds...or is that spuds? I got voted off the Island yesterday! I'd say lets have a pity party but...you know what it's really fine.
My Entry a kinda pop arty sorta Beetlejuice inspired Still-------->

The assignment for the SLArtist Idol Contest was "Still Life". I struggled with it horribly all week. I was sick of looking at chairs, sofas, tables, bowls, jugs of all sorts of indescribable goo in them. I even thought about revisiting the Phallus Garden at Panache....hmmm, not sure that would have qualified!

The entries that placed, imho were stunning: Ryker Beck - Cienga Soon - Kimico Jewell - SkyCat Ranger - Evangeline Cortes will continue on to the next round with this weeks assignment being "Landscape".

The competition has been tough, and it will only get more so....my best wishes and congratulations to each of these fine artists of Second Life. (I'd say break a leg but someone might sue me for that one....)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Alright next: Another new $L100 skin is labeled and ready for search and wear missions. If you choose to accept this just teleport to the Second Thoughts/DaeSkins location on Lo Lo and take a look around on the ground floor. The discounted skin is boxed as normally so will take a little searching through the store. Good luck and enjoy!
